You will need the following tools for this task:
Remove your battery. With the battery removed press and hold the power button you use to discharge any excess electricity in the system.
Disconnect the motor power plug. You may need to snip some zip ties to get some clack in the wire to unplug it. It will be a thick wire coming out from the motor - pictured below. When disconnecting this connector pull it apart - DO NOT TWIST!
Fold the bike to a 45° angle so the bike can be upright and you can access the middle folding portion.
Remove the 4 screws and then slide off the cover plate those screws are holding in.
You will be able to see the controller in the cavity the cover plate was protecting. Note the orientation of it - the controller can only be installed and reinstalled in one direction.
Gently wiggle out the controller - it should slide out fairly easily with some wiggling.
With the controller removed take pictures of all the connectors on the controller and bike wiring harness. Take multiple, well lit pictures so you can clearly discern each connector and the colours of the wires coming out of it.
This is very important so you can reinstall everything properly after as there are some connections that may look similar but will cause the bike to not function correctly if not plugged in properly
Once you have recorded the connections between controller and bike gently unplug the connectors. Some of these correctors may be a clip style requiring a part to be pushed down before you can release it.
To reinstall the controller
- Plug back in all the connectors
- Slide the controller back in ensuring you slide it in orientated the same way as when you took it out
- Reinstall the plastic cover over the middle folding portion of the bike
- Plug back in the motor power cord
- Any zip ties you had previously removed please attach new zip ties to ensure wires are securely connected to the frame
