Installing Chainring Spacers on 20" Stunner LT Follow
To perform this fix and install these spacers you will need the following tools:
- 5mm Allen Key Wrench
- 8mm Allen Key
- Crank Arm Puller
- Assistance from a second person for Steps 5 and 6
Parts you will receive to perform this fix:
- 5 x T-Nuts
- 5 x Bolts
- 5 x 5mm Spacers
- 15 x 1mm Spacers
Procedure
Step 1
Remove the chain from the bike's chainring.
Step 2
Remove the crank arm from the drive side of the bike (same side of the bike as the chain). You will need to use the crank arm puller and 8mm Allen Key for this. If you need help with this step consult this article and video.
Step 3
Use the 5mm Allen Key to remove the 5 bolts circled below.
Step 4
Remove the cover and chainring from the spider. Keep track of the hardware you are removing during this process - you will need the 4mm spacers that are in between the cover and chainring for the next step. The bike will then look like as pictured below with the spider exposed.
Step 5
Align the new hardware in the order shown below with the spider, chainring and cover. Install onto bike. Another set of hands makes this part much easier!
Step 6
Insert the remaining 4 nuts, bolts and spacers to fully secure the chainring and cover to the bike.
Step 7
Reinstall the crank arm removed in Step 2.
Step 8
Put the chain back on the chainring.
