Tools to keep with you for each ride Follow
There are some useful tools to carry with you on every ride to perform quick fixes that could slow you down. Very handy to have around especially if you carry a bag while biking!
- Allen key multi-tool:
- The one you received when purchasing your bike will work fine if you do not already own one.
- Bonus if it has other screw heads such as a phillips, flathead or TORX bit. Great for small fixes or tightening something quickly.
- Small adjustable wrench:
- This can be used to conveniently fit the different sized nuts and bolts on your bike
- Small tire pump:
- Great for getting extra inflation for riding or filling an unexpected flat tire.
- DO make sure the pump head is adjusted for your specific valve type
- Spare inner tube:
- If you get a flat tire this will let you fix it and get back to your ride right away.
- DO make sure to get an inner tube with the correct valve type!
- Inner tube patch kit:
- This can be used instead of a spare inner tube to patch small holes in the inner tube and get back to riding.
- Tire Levers:
- These are important for removing the tire to get at the inner tube if you have a flat.
- Review their use before heading out on a ride!
- Watch this video for information on using tire levers.
- Bike chain tool:
- If your chain breaks while out riding this can be used to fix it.
- Work gloves:
- Great if you must fix something and your bike is messy. Can save your hands from getting pinched and scraped while caring out roadside repairs.
