eBike Gear Shifting Follow
This guide is written for a bike with a derailleur. If your bike has hub gears read this guide.
Shifting gears on your eBike may seem daunting at first but can be very satisfying once you get started! If you have rode a standard bike with gears it's the same except that on an eBike you get even more power with good shifting.
While shifting gears on a bike with a standard derailleur you must be pedalling or using the motor - -the chain must be moving to shift.
Lowered numbered gears are easier to pedal in and will allow you to pedal quicker. These are for climbing up hills and getting started from a full stop.
Higher numbered gears are harder to pedal in but will move the bike quicker once you are already moving. These are for reaching higher speeds and cruising with lower effort.
DO shift multiple gears at a time when riding downhill or on flat land
DON'T shift multiple gears when biking on an uphill. Wait a second or two between each shift. Do try and anticipate uphill sloped beforehand and shift before tackling a hill.
In general if you are pedalling too fast and there isn’t enough resistance shift up to a higher gear. If you are pedalling too slow and it is hard to move the pedals sift down to a lower gear.
