How to ride an eBike: first steps and getting used to the controls Follow
Riding an eBike is not all that different than riding a regular bike. While it may seem daunting at first after reading this guide you will be well on your way to mastering your new Biktrix eBike!
Step 1: Ride the bike
The first step to getting familiar with your eBike is to ride it as a normal bike. Get your seat adjusted to the proper height, adjust your handlebars if needed and ride without the electric assist. Get used to braking, shifting, and turning the bike without using the electronics.
Step 2: Identify your display
Some of our bikes have different displays and it is best to familiarize yourself with the operation of the display on the bike you will be using. You can find what kind of display your bike uses by looking on the back of it or looking on the webpage for your bike model on the Biktrix website.
Then search on our support website for your display.
A guide will be there so you can learn the features of your display. Some basic information to get you going will be included in the next step.
Step 3: Learn your control pad
Depending on your bike you may have a different control pad for the PAS function on the motor. Only worry about learning how to operate the control pad for your bike! Here are some of the controls your bike may have and what you can do with them:
- Control Pad 1
- Hold POWER button to turn on display and electronics
- Use the UP and DOWN buttons to change your assist level (you will see the assist level on display)
- Hold the UP key for one second to turn on your headlight
- Hold the DOWN button for two seconds to enter walking mode. Release the button to exit.
- Walking mode is used for when you are pushing the bike and want motor assistance to move it. Best for getting a heavy bike up ramps or stairs. You must be in a PAS assist mode to use this.
- Double press the POWER button to enter the system menu to change parameters such as time, units for distance (Miles or KM) or others.

Step 4: Ride with electricity
Turn on the electronics on your bike and take it for a ride! Start on PAS level 1 and pedal lightly on an open stretch to get a feel for the motor. Wait until you get a feeling for bike with the PAS on at a low level before you start using the throttle.
Use the throttle if you need a quick blip of power for going up a hill, getting started from a stop in traffic or for a quick burst of acceleration on flat land.
A higher PAS level will use more of the motor’s power. Your bike may have levels going either 0-3, 0-5, 0-9. These represent how much of the motor’s power will be used while pedalling. If you have levels going 0-5 level 1 will use 20% of the motor, level 2 will use 40% of the motor, level 3 will use 60% and so on. A higher PAS level will have the motor deliver more power to your pedalling.
Now go out there and enjoy riding your new eBike!
